On 18 September 2026, Dr Despina Mavromati participated as a speaker in the XII Jornadas de Derecho Deportivo, organised by the Spanish Sports Law Association (Asociación Española de Derecho Deportivo, AEDD) and the Basque Sports Law Association in Bilbao, Spain. The conference, entitled “Marco Jurídico del Deporte Federado”, brought together sports law practitioners, academics and representatives of sports organisations to discuss contemporary legal challenges facing sports federations. Speaking in Spanish, Dr Mavromati addressed the role of sports federations in alternative dispute resolution (ADR), drawing on her extensive experience in international sports arbitration. The event also provided an opportunity for Dr Mavromati, in her capacity as Chair of the International Committee of the Sports Lawyers Association (SLA), to meet with members of the AEDD Board and exchange views on international cooperation between sports law associations.
